Saffredi 2016

Very intense bouquet of a mix of wild berries, with mostly red berries, but also Blueberries and purple / red flowers. Hints of earth, vanilla, pencil and cedar.

The palate shows a wonderful structure, extremely balanced with strong juicy elegance from the berries, but also with minerals, that will underline a beautiful, year not overwhelming acidity. They are a bunch of tannins, but they are in the background as the juice is so pure, that they won’t interfere with the berry palate.

Medium+ finish, with lots of sour berries and minerals.

Honestly, that’s a sleeping beauty! The wine has barely opened yet, but compared to yesterday, I can tell where this will lead.

The first impression yesterday was that the wine is perfectly balanced, but of course does not show the complexity it could have. So I kept it closed over night and the wine has evolved a bit into the elegant, juicy and complex wine it can become.

I compared it to the Gazin 2009 (Pomerol) and I prefer this one as it has more juicy power, even if the Gazin was slightly more elegant, but showed less minerals.

An amazing vintage of a beautiful wine that I wish I had more bottle of to try again in 5 years earliest.
