Surprise of the evening.
I actually bought this wine for the usual guest who might visits me one day and then wants to drink a “not too dry red wine” without any further specifications.
Beside of that, I wanted to know how a 20€ Primitivo & Piedirosso would taste (Beyond the usual suspects 1,99€ Primitivo you can buy at aldi). So let’s move on with the rating:
Amazing bouquet, not as expected and to my surprise: it is positive!
In the bouquet ripe plum, liquorice, mineral and very pleasant.
On the palate, super smooth and strongly aromatic. Reminds me a bit of a sherry from the structure, but without nutty aromas and with a salty and surprising mineral impression (very mineral to be honest). Long finish.
92/100
Surprising. Completely different from what we thought and extremely special in itself. I appreciate this salty minerality and especially this elegant and fine structure, which is supported by a very pleasant tannin structure.
A wine that is “different” and I like it very much, but not a “drinking wine” – it has NOTHING to do with a common Primitivo and requires a little concentration to understand it.
Recommended if you want to try something different 🙂
