Einen Wein aus Libanon trinke ich nicht jeden Tag und heute lüstete es mich den 2005er auszuprobieren, nachdem mir der 2007er Jahrgang schon sehr gut gefallen hatte.
Bouquet ist komplex und aromatisch. Vordergründig gefüllt mit Tabak, Zeder und Leder, gefolgt von orientalischen Gewürzen, ein wenig Schokolade und Eukalyptus. Minimales Sauerkirsche-Aroma.
Am Gaumen sehr frisch, einleitend mit süßer Frucht und Teeblätter, sehr geschmacksintensiv und unterstütz durch zartes Tannin und einer intensiven und frischen Säure.
Der Abgang ist sehr lang und zeigt nochmal Frucht und Toast.

Prognose: Wirkt auf mich bereits sehr reif, obwohl man immer wieder ließt, dass dieser Wein “ewig haltbar” sein soll. Kann die Struktur bestimmt noch 2-5 Jahre halten, allerdings bereits in einem fortgeschrittenem Zustand und im optimalem Trinkfenster.

Fazit:
wunderschöner Wein aus Libanon. Ganz andere Stillistik und sehr aromatisch und schlank. Entsprechend der Region hätte ich doch wieder mal etwas “marmeladigeres” erwartet. Stilistisch am ehesten mit dem Oikonomou aus Griechenland zu vergleichen, allerdings erreicht der Musar nicht ganz diese Klasse und Komplexität.
Eher ein Wein für Liebhaber komplexer und maskuliner Weine, die jedoch nicht ganz auf Eleganz verzichten möchten.
Für mich schon ein Highlight, der Preis von knapp 30 € ist auch ausgezeichnet!

Château Musar 2005 – Bekaa Valley (Libanon)
I don’t drink a wine from Lebanon every day but today, as I visited my cellar, this bottle just smiled at me and said: „Drink me! “ as the 2007 tasted very good, I thought: okay, let’s try the 2005 vintage.
Bouquet shows complex and aromatic. It opens with much tobacco, cedar and leather and leads into oriental spice, chocolate and eucalyptus. Minimal sour cherry aromas come last.
On the palate, highly fresh, opening with some sweetness and tea leaves. Intense taste that is supported by melting tannins and an intense fresh acidity.
The finish is very long, shows again fresh red fruits and toast.

Forecast: A mature wine that has reached the optimal drinking window. Will hold this state for max. 6 years.
Wine Juggler conclusion:
Wonderful wine from Lebanon. Very different style and highly aromatic and elegant. As the region is not the coldest, I expected it to me more like „marmalade“ but the style is more like the Oikonomou from Greece I rated recently, without reaching its class.
A wine that is more for lovers of masculine and complex wines who don’t want to miss the elegance.
A Highlight and the price of around 30 € ist very good.
