Heute geht es an ganz neue Ufer – nach Griechenland.

Ich weiß schon lange, dass es griechischen Wein gibt, allerdings habe ich mich noch nie sonderlich dafür interessiert. Zuletzt habe ich zufällig diese Flasche im Internet entdeckt und wollte wissen, wie so ein reifer Wein aus Griechenland schmeckt.

Nachdem heute mein Geburtstag ist, ein passender Wein zum abklingen.

Bouquet ist höchst komplex und zunächst sehr oxidiert. Nach einer Weile im Glas entwickelt sich allerdings ein deutlich differenziertes Bild, mit Karamel, Eukalyptus, Menthol, Zimt, Erde, Leder, Orange und Dörrobst.

Am Gaumen von mittlerer + Dichte, unglaublich weiche Tannine, sehr aromatisch und leicht zugleich. Zunächst sehr süßlich, gefolgt von den Tanninen und einem sanften Portweingeschmack. Erstaunlich stabile Säure, ausgezeichnete Balance und Harmonie.

Der Abgang ist von ausgezeichneter Struktur, zeigt sich intensiv und äußerst likörhaft. Ganz am Schluss sind nochmal süße Himbeeren zu schmecken, gepaart mit Holz und Karamell.

Harmonie / Gesamteindruck: 5/7

Bewertung: 15,5/20 + – sehr gut (~ 91-92 / 100)

Trinken: 2008 – 2022

Preis/Leistung: 3/5 gut  – ~35,50 €

Prognose: in meinen Augen bereits überreif, aber noch erstaunlich viel Substanz und Power! Ich würde nicht mehr warten und jetzt trinken.

Wine Juggler Fazit:: Erstaunlich was ich da heute im Glas hatte! Es war eine Mischung aus einem sehr eleganten Rotwein, einem hochwertigem Whiskey und etwas Portwein.

Sehr guter Geschmack, sehr fein und filigran. Selbst die Säure war noch intakt.

Ein edler tropfen, da frage ich mich, warum griechische Weine von vielen noch immer als “zweite Wahl” angesehen werden.

Oikonomoy “Sitia” 1998

Today I’m going to Greece.

I know since long that Greek wines exist, but I wasn’t interested in them so far. Shortly, I saw this bottle on the internet and wanted to know how a good and mature Greek wine would taste.

As today is my birthday, I thought it was a good day to try it out.

Bouquet shows highly complex and firstly with much oxidation. After a while, it will split and open up with caramel, eucalyptus, menthol, cinnamon, leather, earth, orange and dried fruit.

On the palate of medium+ intensity, melted tannins, highly aromatic and soft at the same time. Firstly, sweet, then the tannin will give him grip and then it will taste like a good port wine. Very good structured acidity, balance and harmony.

The finish is long and intense and show much of liquor. At the very end, sweet raspberry, wood and caramel.

Rating: 15,5/20 – good to very good (~91-92 pts.)

Price: 3/5 good – ~35,00 €

Drink: 2008 – 2022

Forecast: A bit over matured in my eyes, but still beautiful! I wouldn’t wait any longer and drink now 🙂

Wine Juggler conclusion: What the hell did I just had in my glass? A great whiskey? A port wine or a red wine? Or all of them in one?!

A very, very special and beautiful overripe Wine with intact acidity.

I’m wondering why many people see Greek wine still ad the second choice. Awesome.
