MORELLINO – STILL A HIDDEN GEM

By Gerardo Corleone

We visited Cecchi’s estates in Chianti and Maremma last year and we brought two bottles of this one with us as I liked it a lot when tasted at the winery.

I sent one of these bottles to Daniel B. and as you can understand from his Tasting Note, he truly liked it – and I see why!

Morellino Riserva made from 100% Sangiovese and aged in french oak.

It shows loooooong and creamy legs with an intesive ruby red colour and  opens with a perfumed bouquet full of cherry liqueur, licorice, roasted sage, burned earth and a touch of cranberry.

Medium to full bodied and already with a polished and smooth mouthfeel. The tannins are really grainy and fit very good to the mineral, but defensive acidity. Lots of ripe red and black fruit pairs with some smokey hints and push this one to a juicy-dry and pleasant finish. The fruit remains for long and your tongue is already asking for another sip!
